Host Recap: 2025 Bank of America ROVAL 400 | Playoff Sunday with RaceAway

What a Sunday we had at the Charlotte ROVAL. As the on-site host for RaceAway, I (Jennifer) spent October 5, 2025, at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina, with our guests soaking up every bit of Playoff drama on NASCAR’s road-course/oval hybrid. The Bank of America ROVAL 400 never seems to have a calm finish, and 2025 kept that streak going. Shane van Gisbergen put on a road-course clinic up front, and that late-race tangle between Ross Chastain and Denny Hamlin gave us one of those “did that really just happen?” moments that you talk about all the way back to the hotel.

Meeting Our RaceAway ROVAL Crew

I am Jennifer: a Kansan who made North Carolina home years ago – and I have been hosting RaceAway trips for quite a while now. One of my favorite parts of this job is that every race weekend feels a little like a reunion and a little like making new friends.

On ROVAL Sunday, I met our group in the Embassy Suites Charlotte hotel lobby to check tickets and walk everyone through the plan for the day. With more than half of our guests having traveled with us before, there were a lot of “good to see you again” hugs and handshakes. Our returning guests help set such a warm tone. They are quick to welcome first-timers and share tips, which I absolutely love watching.

Once everyone was aboard our private motorcoach, we headed toward Charlotte Motor Speedway with plenty of time built in. On the ride over, I went through what could and could not go through the gates. As of October 2025, that meant soft-sided coolers, no glass, and clear bags or small backpacks, plus all the usual security checks. I also answered questions about scanners, concessions, and souvenirs. I like to keep it calm and encouraging: “Ask me anything now so you can relax and just enjoy the race once we are there.”

The bus had that fun, low-key race day buzz. Guests compared driver picks, talked about past ROVAL chaos, and wondered what twist this year’s race would bring.

Settling into the ROVAL Experience

When we arrived and parked, I led our group up toward the grandstands, making sure no one got left behind in the shuffle. The ROVAL is such a neat layout: big frontstretch, that massive video board, and the infield section winding through the middle of the track. From our seats, we could follow the cars across the frontstretch, dive into the infield, and shoot through both chicanes, which makes it easy to stay engaged from green to checkered.

Pre-race always goes by quickly. Some guests headed straight to their seats to catch final pit road activity. Others made a beeline for food and drinks or one more piece of merchandise. I try to float between little clusters of guests, checking in: “You good? Any questions? Need help finding your way back if you go exploring?”

On the bus earlier, I had given a birthday shout-out to Richard A., who chose to spend his birthday at the ROVAL with us. Later, as we settled in the stands, a few nearby guests started singing “Happy Birthday,” and the smile on his face said it all. Those small, unscripted moments are some of my favorites.

It was also wonderful to see familiar faces like Mercedez S. and her dad, Bruce S. They have joined us before, and from my spot in the section I could see them sharing scanner chatter, pointing things out to each other, and reacting together every time the caution flag waved. Watching those family traditions continue year after year is one of the biggest joys of being a long-time host.

From Green Flag to Classic ROVAL Chaos

When the green flag waved, the race settled into that busy, technical ROVAL rhythm. From our vantage point, we could see how much work each lap required: hard braking zones, fast transitions back onto the oval, and a lot of give and take in the chicanes.

Shane van Gisbergen quickly established himself as the driver to beat. Lap after lap, he hit his marks, handled restarts smoothly, and worked traffic like he had been running this layout forever. Guests around me commented on how smooth he looked. One simply said, “He just does not miss,” and I had to agree.

Of course, the ROVAL almost always saves something wild for the end. In the closing laps, Ross Chastain made an aggressive move on Denny Hamlin through the final chicane. From where we were sitting, we saw the contact, watched Hamlin spin, and then saw Chastain throw it in reverse and try to get turned around and going again. Our whole section reacted at once – gasps, laughter, and plenty of “Did you see that?!”

By the time the checkered flag flew, van Gisbergen had sealed a dominant win, but the talk in our area was all about that last chicane moment and what it meant for the Playoff picture. On the walk back to the motorcoach, guests replayed their favorite parts of the race, compared photos and videos on their phones, and were already debating next year’s ROVAL strategies.

Highlights from Our 2025 ROVAL Weekend

  • A friendly, familiar group with a majority of returning guests, which made the day feel more like a gathering of friends than a tour.
  • Round-trip private motorcoach transportation so no one had to worry about parking, traffic, or directions.
  • A birthday celebration for Richard A. that started on the bus and continued with a little grandstand serenade.
  • Father-daughter memories for Mercedez S. and Bruce S., adding another shared chapter to their RaceAway story.
  • Excellent grandstand views of the frontstretch, infield section, and both chicanes – perfect for following every twist of the 2.28-mile ROVAL.
  • On-track action that had it all: Shane van Gisbergen’s road-course masterclass and Ross Chastain’s unforgettable late move on Denny Hamlin.

Wrapping Up a Special Playoff Sunday

On the ride back to the hotel, the bus had that happy kind of tired feeling. People were scrolling through photos, trading highlights, and already talking about “next time.” As a Kansan who has made North Carolina home and a long-time RaceAway host, weekends like this are exactly why I love what I do. I get to help new race fans fall in love with the experience and watch long-time guests grow from “people on my list” into true friends.

If you are thinking about joining us for a future Bank of America ROVAL 400 or exploring other Charlotte Motor Speedway NASCAR packages with RaceAway, I would be thrilled to welcome you along. I will take care of the logistics so you can focus on the racing, the people you are with, and the memories you will take home.
