Host Recap: 2025 Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway | A Picture-Perfect RaceAway Weekend

What an unforgettable day at Kansas Speedway. As the on-site RaceAway host, I had the pleasure of welcoming our guests to Kansas City, Kansas, for the 2025 Kansas Hollywood Casino 400 on Sunday, September 28, 2025, under clear skies and truly picture-perfect weather. The lights glowed, the engines roared, and our Kansas Speedway NASCAR package put everyone in a great position to watch Chase Elliott score a dramatic overtime win over Denny Hamlin and Christopher Bell.

Hosting Our RaceAway Group in Kansas City

Race day started at the Embassy Suites Kansas City Airport, our host hotel for the weekend. Guests grabbed breakfast and then met me in the lobby wearing their RaceAway lanyards so we could easily board our race-day charter together. With about one-third returning guests in the group, it felt like a nice blend of familiar faces and first-time guests, all swapping stories about favorite drivers and past races.

Right at 9:30 a.m., we rolled out toward Kansas Speedway. The track sits about 20 miles from the hotel, but with race-day traffic we plan for roughly 45 minutes on the bus. That ride gives me time to review the schedule, including pre-race pass crossover opens at 11:30 a.m., driver introductions at 1:15 p.m., and the green flag for the 2025 Kansas Hollywood Casino 400 at 2:00 p.m. I also go over carry-in guidelines so everyone knows what to expect at the gates.

As we made our way toward the track, I walked the aisle to go over the Kansas basics one more time. As of September 2025, Kansas Speedway’s policy allows one soft-sided cooler or bag up to 14 inches, plus up to two additional bags up to 18 inches, with no glass containers. Clear bags are encouraged, and everything is subject to search. I always remind guests of those details on the way so they can breeze through security and get to the fun part quickly.

When we arrived, we made our way from the bus lot to the grandstands. The fall weather could not have been better: warm without being hot, bright sunshine, and a light breeze. Guests with pre-race passes headed down to the crossover gates around 11:30 a.m. to walk the infield, get photos in front of the stage, and watch final preparations up close before heading back to the seats in time for driver intros.

Picture-Perfect Weather and a First-Time Family

One of the highlights of this weekend for me was meeting Laura S. and her family on their very first NASCAR trip. From the moment they checked in at the hotel, they asked great questions about what to bring, how the pre-race passes worked, and what to expect throughout the day. Laura had already been in touch with our office staff by email leading up to the weekend, and it was great to see how relaxed they were once everything came together.

After the race, Laura sent a note that really summed up what we aim for at RaceAway. She thanked us for making their first trip to a NASCAR race “so wonderful and effortless,” mentioning that no question ever felt silly and that everything was set up so well they “just had to show up.” She also mentioned how much they appreciated the accommodations and the “picture-perfect” weather; comments that made our whole team smile.

Hearing that kind of feedback, especially from first-time race fans, reinforces why we put so much focus on clear communication, detailed itineraries, and having a host on-site to handle the little things. When new fans head home already talking about their next race, I know we did our job.

Overtime Drama Under the Lights

As the afternoon went on and the sun dropped, the atmosphere at Kansas Speedway shifted into that special night-race feel. The lights came on, the track took on a different look, and you could sense the intensity building for the closing stages of the Hollywood Casino 400.

From our seats, guests had an excellent view of the racing grooves widening out and the leaders working traffic. Strategy was in play on pit road all day, but it was the late-race restart that everyone will remember. In overtime, Chase Elliott charged hard, managing to edge out Denny Hamlin and Christopher Bell in a dramatic run to the checkered flag. Our section erupted with cheers, high-fives, and plenty of “Did you see that move!?” as the cars thundered past under the lights.

When the checkered flag flew and the fireworks capped off the night, you could feel that satisfied buzz in the crowd. It was exactly the kind of finish you hope for when you plan a weekend around this race.

The walk back to the bus was filled with excited debriefs, guests replaying the overtime restart, debating strategy calls, and talking about how close the finish looked from our angle. True to schedule, we pulled out about an hour after the race, giving everyone time to settle in for the ride back to the Embassy Suites and one last chance to swap stories before calling it a night.
