Host Recap: 2026 Straight Talk Wireless 500 at Phoenix Raceway

I always enjoy bringing a group out to Phoenix, and this March weekend reminded me why. We spent Sunday, March 8, 2026 at Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, Arizona, for the Straight Talk Wireless 500, and the whole day had that easy desert-race feel our guests love. Our Phoenix Raceway NASCAR packages gave everyone a comfortable setup for the weekend, and with blue skies, a full grandstand, and strong energy around the one-mile oval, it was a fine way to spend a Sunday.

Getting Our Group Ready in Tempe

Our home base for the weekend was the Embassy Suites Phoenix–Tempe, about 30 miles from the track, and it worked well for our group. The hotel has been a longtime RaceAway partner, and it gives folks a roomy place to settle in, plus a convenient meeting point before race day. It is also close to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport and nearby dining, which makes arrival day pretty easy for travelers coming in from different places.

One thing I noticed right away was the mix of guests. Most of the folks with us in Phoenix were first-timers with RaceAway, but about a third were return guests, so it made for a nice balance. The returning travelers already knew the flow of the weekend, and the newer guests were excited to experience Phoenix with us for the first time. I always like that combination because it helps the group settle in quickly.

By Saturday evening, I was seeing people relax into the trip and start talking racing in the lobby. That is usually when I can tell a good weekend is taking shape. I was the only host on site for this trip, so I made a point to be visible, answer questions, and keep things simple for everyone from the hotel through the ride to the track and back again. I was on site from Saturday evening through Monday morning.

Race Day at Phoenix Raceway

Sunday started with our charter transportation departing the hotel at 8:00 a.m., which gave us plenty of time to get over to the track and let everyone explore before driver introductions at noon and the 12:30 p.m. green flag. The ride from the Embassy Suites to Phoenix Raceway is only about 30 miles, but with race traffic we allow for roughly an hour, and having a restroom on the bus makes that trip more comfortable for guests.

As we made our way toward the track, I went over the basics with the group one more time. As of March 2026: soft-sided coolers up to 14 inches were allowed in the grandstands, outside alcohol was not permitted under Arizona law, and concessions and merchandise were cashless at the track. Guests with pre-race Infield Experience passes also had separate entry instructions through the Tunnel of Triumph and needed to exit the infield after driver introductions.

Once we got inside, the atmosphere felt just right. The weather was beautiful, which is one of the reasons everyone enjoys Phoenix so much, and the packed grandstands gave the place a lot of life before the race even started. From there, it was all about getting everyone pointed in the right direction, making sure the day felt easy, and then letting them enjoy the show.

The race itself had a little bit of everything. Tyler Reddick came into Phoenix carrying a three-race winning streak to start the season, so there was already a storyline to follow before the green flag. From my seat and from the comments I heard around our group, the race had the kind of rhythm Phoenix does well: strategy, long runs, restarts, and a whole lot of battling for track position. The one-mile layout keeps the field in view, and that makes it easy for guests to follow the flow of the race and feel connected to what is happening lap by lap. The late-race action had people leaning forward and paying close attention.

What Stood Out from This Phoenix Weekend

A big part of a good host weekend is what I hear after everybody gets home. Steve R. sent me a note after the trip to say his group really enjoyed their time in Phoenix and would let us know which race they want to do with us next. That kind of message means a lot, especially after a weekend with so many first-time guests. It tells me they felt taken care of and had the kind of experience that makes them want to travel with us again.

Highlights from This 2026 Straight Talk Wireless 500 Weekend

  • Beautiful desert weather and a lively Sunday crowd at Phoenix Raceway.
  • A strong mix of first-time RaceAway guests and return travelers, with about one-third of the group having traveled with us before.
  • Embassy Suites Phoenix–Tempe as our weekend home base, with hosted charter transportation to and from the track.
  • A full afternoon of Cup Series strategy, passing, and hard racing around the one-mile oval.
  • Helpful guest feedback from Steve R. after the trip, letting us know his group had a great time in Phoenix.

By the end of the weekend, Phoenix had once again delivered what I appreciate most about this stop: good weather, a smooth race-day plan, and a track that always seems to produce a solid afternoon of racing. For our group, it was a chance to enjoy the energy of the 2026 Straight Talk Wireless 500 weekend without having to worry about the details, and that is exactly what I want a RaceAway trip to feel like.
