Bristol, you never disappoint. Our RaceAway guests had an incredible weekend at the 2025 Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee. We spent Sunday, April 13, 2025, watching Kyle Larson put on a clinic, leading 411 of 500 laps on the high banks for a dominant win. The short-track action was intense, and the energy inside The Last Great Colosseum was electric. Our group got a great taste of what our hosted Bristol Motor Speedway weekends are all about.
Getting Settled at the Knoxville Airport Hilton
I’m Rick, your good-natured Midwestern host, and for this Bristol weekend our home base was the Hilton Knoxville Airport in Alcoa, Tennessee. It was a convenient spot for guests flying into Knoxville, and it gives us a simple, central place to meet on race day.
We had a fun mix of guests, with quite a few new race fans giving Bristol a try for the first time. On Saturday evening, people checked in and started comparing stories about where they were from and which drivers they hoped to see up front. I walked everyone through the Sunday plan, cooler and bag guidelines, and what kind of weather to expect. With April highs around the upper 60s and cooler evenings, I always recommend tossing a jacket in the bag.
Saturday was a free day from our perspective. Food City 500 qualifying and the SciAps 300 Xfinity Series race took place that afternoon for those who bought tickets, but our official tour weekend centered on the Sunday Cup race.
Race Day: From Knoxville to The Last Great Colosseum
On Sunday morning, our charter buses pulled up right in front of the Hilton Knoxville Airport. I asked everyone to be ready ten minutes before our 8:30 AM departure so loading could be relaxed instead of rushed. The drive from the hotel to Bristol Motor Speedway is about two hours in race-day traffic, so we plan for that from the start. There was a restroom on the bus, and guests were welcome to bring snacks and beverages along as long as everything stayed smoke-free for the comfort of the whole group.
As we rolled through East Tennessee, I went over track-entry rules. As of April 2025, Bristol allowed soft-sided coolers up to 14 inches at the largest dimension and bags or backpacks up to 18 inches. No glass containers were permitted, and all coolers and bags were subject to search at the gate. Clear bags helped the process go faster. Concessions and merchandise were cashless, so I reminded everyone to have a card or mobile pay ready before we stepped off the bus.
We talked through suggested race-day items like sunscreen, earplugs, cameras, scanners, and of course tickets. I also warned everyone that the grounds at Bristol are very hilly and require a fair bit of walking. There are free trams around the property before the race, but trams do not run after the race because of heavy foot traffic, so I encouraged folks to pace themselves and give extra time for the walk back to the bus.
When we arrived, the sight of the high concrete walls and packed grandstands started to sink in for our first-timers. Some guests headed straight for our seats to get a feel for the view, while others went exploring or joined a track tour. After the weekend, Sandra G. and her group sent a note that summed it up nicely: they had a “fanfreakintastic” time at Bristol, loved the track tour, and plan to do it again in the future.
Larson’s Dominant Run and a Classic Bristol Afternoon
By 2:30 PM, driver introductions were underway and the crowd energy was building fast. At 3:00 PM, the green flag waved for the 2025 Bristol Food City 500: 500 laps and 266.5 miles around the high-banked half-mile.
From our seats, we had a clear view of the entire concrete bowl. The cars never really leave your sight. They pour into Turn 1, climb the banking, and before you know it they are already diving back into Turn 3. Our new race fans quickly understood why people call this place intense.
Kyle Larson set the tone early and never really let it go. Leading 411 of 500 laps at Bristol is no small thing. Every restart, every long green run, he seemed to be in control. Behind him, the field was a constant swirl of side-by-side battles, traffic management, and the occasional bump to move someone up a lane.
With stages at 125, 250, and 500 laps, strategy calls on pit road mattered, but Larson’s speed kept him one step ahead all afternoon. Each time the field bunched up, our group stood and watched to see if anyone could take a real swing at him. In the end, nobody had enough, and he crossed the line first in what can only be called a statement short-track win.
As the checkered flag fell and the celebrations started, I reminded everyone that our charter would depart one hour after the race ended. That gave folks time to take photos, grab one last drink or snack, and make the walk back through the hilly grounds to the bus lot without feeling rushed.

Wrapping Up a Bristol Weekend to Remember
The ride back to Knoxville was full of that good post-race buzz. People scrolled through photos, replayed videos of restarts, and compared notes on just how loud and intense Bristol feels in person.
As a Midwestern guy who loves a well-planned but easygoing weekend, this trip checked all the boxes for me. We had a smooth hotel stay, on-time transportation, a bunch of new friends, and one of the most dominant short-track drives you are likely to see.
If you are thinking about joining us for a future Food City 500 or another NASCAR weekend with RaceAway, I would be glad to have you along. We will handle the details so you can focus on the racing, the people you are with, and the kind of Bristol memories that stick with you long after the lights go out.
