Host Recap: 2026 Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway

The 2026 Food City 500 on Sunday, April 12 at Bristol Motor Speedway was a blast! Thunder Valley sure did live up to its name. From the time I met our group at the Hilton Knoxville Airport, I could feel the excitement building for a big day, especially with that mix of seasoned Bristol folks, returning RaceAway guests, and a few first time race fans making their way to one of the sport’s most unforgettable tracks. For fans looking at Bristol Motor Speedway NASCAR packages, this was the kind of weekend that reminds me why Bristol always holds a special place on the calendar.

Getting Our Group Settled In for Bristol

I was on site from Saturday evening through Monday morning, and one of my favorite parts of hosting is that first real check-in with everybody. This group was a fun one. About a third had traveled with us before, which always helps set a relaxed tone, and I loved getting to welcome first-time guests from Australia who were seeing Bristol for the very first time. That’s a pretty memorable place to start.

We stayed at the Hilton Knoxville Airport in Alcoa, Tennessee which made for a comfortable home base for the weekend. I always want our guests to feel taken care of from the start, and this group really leaned into the full experience. By Sunday morning, folks were ready early, coffee in hand, talking racing in the lobby before we boarded the charter.

As of our April 2026 weekend, our charter departed the hotel at 8:30 a.m. for the ride to Bristol, and the buses picked up right in front of the Hilton. Our itinerary noted that guests could bring snacks and beverages for the ride, and that the bus restroom was available, which helped make that longer drive go smoothly.

Race Day at The Last Great Colosseum

There’s something about pulling into Bristol that never gets old. Even after doing this for years, I still get that little jolt when the track comes into view. The place has an energy all its own, and our group felt it right away. Once we got everybody unloaded and pointed in the right direction, the day really opened up in that way Bristol weekends do, with the crowd building, the sound bouncing around the facility, and the anticipation rising as race time got closer.

For the April 2026 weekend, Bristol’s race-day setup included a 1:00 p.m. pre-race concert, driver introductions at 2:30 p.m., and the Food City 500 at 3:00 p.m. Our itinerary also noted cashless concessions and bag policies that allowed soft-sided coolers under 14 inches and bags up to 18 inches, with all items subject to search at the gates.

Once the race got rolling, Bristol gave us exactly what folks come there hoping to see. It was loud, fast, physical, and full of the kind of close-quarters racing that keeps everybody on the edge of their seat. We saw bump-and-run moves, sparks flying, tempers heating up, and that unmistakable Bristol intensity from start to finish. Then Ty Gibbs broke through for his first NASCAR Cup Series win, holding off Ryan Blaney and Kyle Larson in an overtime finish that had our guests fully locked in until the final moments.

That kind of finish is fun anywhere, but at Bristol it feels amplified. The high banks, the noise, the way everything seems to happen right in front of you all at once create a race-day atmosphere that’s hard to explain unless you’ve been there in person.

What Stood Out from This Weekend

One of the best parts of this trip for me was hearing how much the weekend meant to people. Michelle B. sent us a note afterward, and it was the kind of message that stays with you. She shared that it was her first NASCAR race and also the first trip she and her husband had taken together without their kids. She told us she was impressed by the hotel and everything the host provided, and that because of the package, they had the time of their lives. Hearing that they’ve now decided to treat themselves to one race a year and plan to travel with us again means an awful lot.

That’s really what I want every Bristol weekend to feel like: exciting, well organized, and easy enough that our guests can focus on enjoying the race instead of worrying about the details.
