Talladega Superspeedway, located near Talladega, Alabama is known as the biggest, fastest and most competitive racing facility in NASCAR. The steep banking of this 2.66-mile tri-oval race track has helped set records for high speeds. Talladega Superspeedway has long been a favorite "restrictor plate" race track among NASCAR fans.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Amp Energy 500 visits Talladega each November and brings a sell out crowd of over 143,000 race fans. Restrictor plate racing typically produces close quarters racing, keeping cars running in massive packs through the high banks at Talladega. With cars racing four and five wide, fans sometimes witness "the big one," a wreck of several cars racing in tight proximity.
