Darlington Raceway, Darlington, South Carolina

"Darlington Raceway holds a lot of history for NASCAR racing, and has been nicknamed "The Lady in Black." This is the place where a driver can earn a "Darlington Stripe" by scraping the wall in the corner of the oddly-shaped race track.

The grounds at Darlington are pretty flat and our charter buses park just outside of turns 1 and 2. This makes it a short walk to our Tyler Tower seats on the front stretch. We have some of the best seats in the house, right at the start/finish line. This facility is always a pleasure to visit.

As the races begin at Darlington, the sun is usually just setting. It's a beautiful sight to see cars start racing around the track as the sun goes down. By this time, the temperature has cooled off and the weather has historically been perfect with average daytime highs in the 80s and nighttime lows in the upper 50s.

Starting in 2011, our tour group will stay in Myrtle Beach, SC at the Embassy Suites Oceanfront Resort. We look forward to visiting Myrtle Beach after having stayed in Columbia, SC for the past several years. From the hotel to Darlington is about a 75-minute charter bus ride. Guests staying with us in Myrtle Beach can fly into Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR).

The track that's "too tough to tame" was once a cotton field near Darlington, South Carolina. Darlington Raceway is a 1.25 mile egg-shaped race track, and is considered legendary among NASCAR drivers. Each end of Darlington Raceway is configured differently, and the steep banks make for an excitng challenge for pit crews setting up their drivers' race cars, attempting to make them handle well at both ends of the race track.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series run under the lights at Darlington each May in front of a crowd of 65,000 NASCAR fans.
